ramblings on writing.

You know, and this is a fairly random thought, if short stories can win awards, can be turned into movies...

Why is it that there are those out there that lump "creative writing" in with writing a lot. I don't mean writing often or being prolific - I mean if you've a story to tell and keep it short in length this is some how not creative.

This makes no sense. In fact some times writers who write long books or whatever, are actually not thought of as great because they write so much beyond what they really needed to.

Wouldn't a really good writer find the method of writing that suits the story rather then simply applying the same method to all types of stories and characters?

If a character is a no-nonsense quick to anger, quick to act person who doesn't mull things over as he should - wouldn't it make sense that a story about him be told in a method that reflects that?

So 'he looked around and saw a living room' would be more appropriate then listing what the living room looked liked and all the furniture in it.

Nothing's happened or anything but this is merely a realization on why I've become so reluctant to RP anymore in other rooms, other places. You get people that are so expecting and when something that doesn't fit their way of thinking....it's wrong wrong wrong wrong. Instead of, this is different maybe it's interesting.

Instead there are front doors with signs that effectively say if you don't write a certain way don't bother entering. And even if there is no sign - people will say they're open but tend not to be. "Your post was two sentences that's to short. "

Bah.

Read some books sometime people, pay attention to reality - people do not write in massive paragraphs nor do people live like that. It's generally much more rapidly paced. Contemplation occur in massive paragraphs or chapters with little dialogue. The bulk of multiple people scenes is dialogue and actions. The contemplative parts are usually around the beginning or end of a chapter or here and there but not before and after every bit of dialogue.

At least that's how it seems to me...

It will be the second night of Hanukkah tonight but since my mom works today we did the gifts already. Yesterday I got a Kitchen Aid mixer (they look like and were created by the same people that make Hobart mixers which I use at work) and 3 jars of chutney in differant flavors. I gave my mom a big box of different trail mixes. (Don't laugh, the scales will even out lol)

Tonight I got a DVD-Writer and the new James Bond game. She got a terabyte drive for her desktop and a wireless network card for her laptop.

I kinda like this a few gifts at a time business... lol It's like ooh what's next tomorrow.

Interesting note: There is a Hanukkah station on XM Radio.
This is pathetic. Just...pathetic. Someone/group is trying to intimidate people not to vote by way of using fear of being arrested.

This is from Philadelphia.

There are other things that are all sorts of ways people go about trying to get people to not even bother voting. It's pathetic. People are so afraid their candidate will loose that they lower themselves to this nonsense.

No one but poll workers should be able to challenge a person's right to vote. This being out of incorrect registration or other legal legitimate reasons...

Register.

Vote.

Life on Mars and Terminal 5....aquarium?

So in ABC's reimagining of the BBC's Life on Mars, Philip Glenister's character of Gene Hunt is NOT being played by Colm Meany. :( Instead they've recast the role with Harvey Keitel. I've heard the name but...I don't quite see it as much as I did with Meany - an irish american cop seemed like a duh American version of the Gene Genie.

Michael Imperioli of Sopranos fame looks more like Chris Skelton then whom they've actually cast him - Ray Carling.

Johnathan Murphy, who's been in...exactly nothing I've ever seen is Chris.

And much like the rest of the cast (except for Imperioli and Keitel) Annie is played by a actress I've never heard of; Gretchen Mol.

So we'll see how that goes.

And in another advert I saw on BBCAmerica, British Airways Terminal 5 (in Heathrow I imagine?) is filled with water, fishes whales and....turtles.)

...yeah.

So... Yesterday was my birthday. 28 years old. Heh

Kind of a *shrug* age. Long since old enough to do what I want, but still young enough for people not to take me seriously. I guess that's something of a time old thing - it happens everywhere, people older then you don't take you seriously because you're younger and can't possibly know as much as they do.

I got a cool coat and blue tooth earbuds. I also got a birthday cake:

And my cat, Eric enjoyed the ribbon from my presents:

Journey to the End of the Knight

So it's episode two of Knight Rider this week and I still want to love the show.

However, that said...PLEASE GET RID OF THE BLUESCREEN DRIVING sequences! They're AWEFUL! Kitt isn't even ON THE ROAD half the time because the footage is so bad.

I beg you Knight Rider makers, PLEASE stop making these awful scenes!! The old show probably had only a quarter of your budget and some how made do -surely you can! Get Michael out in a car ON THE STREET and stop with this nonsense! The race scene is just...AWFUL I mean, one minute in attack mode the windows are pitch black, the next they're clear. GAWD. They edited better (not much I grant you but still) back in the 80s!

At least it wasn't quite as GLARINGLY awful as it is in this show. Just...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get rid of the blue screens, Green screens, whatever they are. They're really bad. Yuck.

But then, THEN after the really stupid green screen races...they remind viewers they remember the old show and do this:
<lj-embed id="8" />

It's only a few seconds but SQUEEEEEE LOL

But also this keeps me watching too I think:
<lj-embed id="9" />

While I think Sara and Kitt go at it way better, Michael and Kitt are starting to work well together.

Yes it's a cheesy show but that's ok. :-)

So I'm slightly worried by the less then turbo ratings Knight Rider got for it's first ep.

Yes, the show is cheesy but that's the appeal I figure. To much tv takes it self way to seriously.

So check out Knight Rider. I mean come on, Val Kilmer is Kitt! (I'm pineing for a Kitt meets Kitt episode. Or new kitt poses as old kit (if it can turn into a pickup it can turn into a t-top LOL)

<lj-embed id="7" />

Well my mom is an editor at a newspaper so...pretty darn important! I think it will be a while before print fully dies if ever - The newspaper is still the cheapest way to get information about the goings on of the world. And because of this, it will have an audience for a good while.

You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, you'll shag and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains children, it's blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it."

Guess what. No not everyone in the world is gonna agree with you and may NEVER agree with you.

I have friends whom I love to chat with, who are big fans of a lot of things I am a fan of and yet two of them are republicans (one even went to the Republican Convention in Philadelphia) . We disagree obviously. Do we think the other is stupid? No. We respect their opinions, tell them the basis for our own and that's it.

I think people forget what an arguement actually is. Do I need to drag out the Monty Python skit for you?

Just because one person doesn't agree doesn't mean "You're wrong" or that they're right. Or wrong. It simpley means ...you don't agree.

And guess what? THAT is the beauty of living in a country like the US.

We can say whatever we want, we can argue it until the cows come home, we can agree to disagree and no one gets hurt. No one dies. No one gets arrested. (public demonstrations aside it's kind of how you get your protest stripes, getting arrested while protesting in public.)

Just because I point out my disagreements (why I disagree with you) does not mean I think you're stupid. It means I disagree.

SHEESH.

You know people do have the option of turning off comments right? I mean...if you don't want comments turn them off. What do you expect all the people on your friends list to agree with you? Well...Sorry I don't agree with you. That makes me the big bad monster? I don't think so.

Still if you don't want to hear other people's opinions on what you ahve to say - turn off comments it's EASY. Just go to the box that says "Allow Comments?" and select "Disabled". It's that simple. You can even screen comments if you want!

You could also ask people not to comment. Though that wouldn't work for everyone obviously.

But please don't tell me I'm giving you shit on your own journal...when you have the ability to not have anything said at all. Not everyone's gonna be "I agree with you" sorry welcome to the real world.

Please feel free to comment as you like. But be prepared for a response...
